This will soon be a balaclava knit with brioche stitching and one of <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/2024/01/2024.html">my resolutions</a> will be complete! When I decided I was finally going to try a brioche knitting project I also decided I needed to have a balaclava and lucky for me <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/designers/stephen-west">Stephen West</a> released his <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/brioclava">Brioclava pattern</a> the week I was trying to figure out if it was possible to modify a single color brioche pattern into a two color brioche pattern. (I don't know if it is possible and it probably would have been too much for a first time brioche knitting project.) The ribbed collar is nearly complete and I get to start the brioche stitches next. Wish me luck!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53585632532/in/dateposted-public/" title="Knit balaclava progress"><img alt="Knit balaclava progress" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53585632532_825198bd9a.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div>kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-19698422345050426632024-03-07T08:00:00.001-07:002024-03-07T08:00:00.134-07:00New Yarn<div style="text-align: left;">New yarn arrived! Once I figure out the right size needles to use I’ll be starting another of my <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/2024/01/2024.html">crafty resolutions</a>, knitting brioche. Wish me luck on this new skill!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53571664542/in/dateposted-public/" title="New Yarn"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53571664542_dc9957071a.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="New Yarn"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div>kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-27346849791375468292024-03-05T08:00:00.001-07:002024-03-05T08:00:00.348-07:00 Furniture Onlays<div style="text-align: left;">The <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/2024/02/painted-onlays.html">painted furniture onlays</a> are now attached to my bed and I'm quite pleased with how it looks! I wanted to add a little something extra to my plain bed frame and decided on some furniture onlays to coordinate with my nightstand. The white paint is a bit more bright than bed frame, but the color difference is not that noticeable because they are close to the ground and in a shadowy part of the room. My next project for this room is to add another floating shelf! I've got lots of decor items and hardly anywhere to display them!<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53568739653/in/dateposted-public/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53568739653_04d8eaf593.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53568541616/in/dateposted-public/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53568541616_507ac4d72d.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div>kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-19287369124122841722024-02-29T08:00:00.032-07:002024-02-29T08:00:00.141-07:00Painted Onlays<div style="text-align: left;">I bought these furniture onlays at the beginning of the year to add a little something extra to my bed frame and I finally painted them! The book was quite long, but I was able to finished reading it in January, but just barely. I’m not sure I enjoyed the book overall, but I did enjoy parts of it. A big part of the book is this cloud wall that moves about and can transport you to another time if you get inside.<div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53544799068/in/dateposted-public/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53544799068_0da98d19c6.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div><div><br /></div>I came across a recipe for these cookies on Pinterest when trying to find things to make with sweetened condensed milk since I bought a multi can pack at Costco for all the Christmas treats I planned on making, but none of the recipes I made called for sweetened condensed milk. These cookies are technically called snowball cookies, but for some reason I kept calling them cloud cookies so they are now cloud cookies which fit with the cloud imagery from the book. </div><div><br /></div><div>The are a slightly sweet cookie that taste mostly like pie crust. I do enjoy the texture so if I make them again I’ll be adding some vanilla or another flavor and maybe a bit more sweetened condensed milk. <div><div><div><br />Our next read is <a href="https://search.worldcat.org/title/49604409">Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami</a>. It was published in 1999 so it meets my goal of reading books published before the year 2000 and it is another book with magical realism! According to Libby, it’s part romance, part detective story. </div></div></div></div>kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-54589827618947924262024-02-20T08:00:00.138-07:002024-02-20T08:00:00.138-07:00Garden PlansWhere has the time gone? February is nearly gone and I’ve blogged only one week this year. Milly and Tilly hasn’t been a priority for me, but it does help keep me accountable with my various projects so I need to focus a bit more on this blog. <div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53540555769/in/dateposted-public/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53540555769_7ca57d27c6.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div><div><br /></div><div>First up, the garden! It is time to start seeds and I have a new soil blocker headed my way along with several packets of seeds. I’m quite excited about this soil blocker as it makes a small size block that can then be placed inside my slightly larger size block and the little seedlings can size up blocks as they grow! This week it should arrive and I will be making lots of soil blocks!<div><br /></div><div>My three <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/2024/01/2024.html">garden resolutions</a> this year were pumpkins, cut flowers, and to build three raised beds. All of the pumpkins and some of the flowers will be sown in tiny little seed blocks this week. The new raised beds have been pushed back again… the wind during the horrible winter storm we had in January took off a large branch from one of the Douglas Firs and sent it flying through the fence. So we are replacing the fence and moving the existing raised beds that were against the fence to a new spot (where we were going to put the new garden beds) then we will build the new raised beds once the fence is finished.</div></div><div><br /></div><div>The garlic and dahlias that over wintered in the existing raised beds have been moved to various pots. I think the garlic will stay in pots until it’s time to harvest and the dahlias will move to the currently build garden beds once they are in their new place. More flowers and the pumpkins will be added to those raised beds once it’s warmer and they are ready to transplant. Then whatever vegetables and probably more flowers will go into the new beds. I’ll be sharing garden updates so you can see the progress!</div>kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-91240196703712338202024-01-04T08:00:00.012-07:002024-01-04T08:00:00.131-07:00Landscape WIPMy first oil pastel drawing of the year is coming along. First, my <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/2023/01/2023.html">2023</a> recap: I got like 70%! (If I’m fairly lenient on what qualifies as complete and round up. These are my goals and my blog so I did pretty great!) </div><div><br /></div><div>Gardening is the category I did most poorly in, completing only one of my three goals (<a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/2023/02/sewn-cotton-row-cover.html">the row cover</a>). Using my oil pastels and sharing about it gets a solid A grade. I completed 3/4 of my in-progress projects! (<a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/2022/01/quilt-pieces-and-plan.html">That quilt!!!</a> Is 2024 the year?) And I’m saying I fixed the unreliable rss/email subscriptions because I thought I had twice and the issue is mostly out of my control.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53437037195/in/dateposted-public/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53437037195_bc5fbfbd7a.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>Now on the the 2024 goals! It was a nice way to end the year and I took lots of photos! My niece helped add the finishing touches to my masterpiece of sweater cookie, I made another Santa ice cream cake, and found inspiration for next year's over the top Christmas light display!<div><br /></div><div>

The highlight of the week was going to The Nutcracker! I think it was the only live performance of the ballet that I've been to and it was great! Had a PNW twist, instead of a rat king, it was a beaver, and the nutcracker was a fur trapper. I am actually really impressed with the quality of the show since it was community theater. Here are the three photos I took this week, none of them are ballet related!<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53411607695/in/dateposted-public/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53411607695_20d448ec26.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53411493279/in/dateposted-public/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53411493279_284d1ff24e.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53411493274/in/dateposted-public/" title="Untitled"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53411493274_87faf70422.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Untitled"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></span></div></div>kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-90777824670812761262023-12-19T08:00:00.014-07:002023-12-19T08:00:00.274-07:00Root Beer GlazeDecember’s <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/p/craft-book-club.html">Craft Book Club</a> read and the final remake of the year was <a href="https://www.worldcat.org/title/1347272900">So Many Beginnings: A Little Women Remix by Bethany C. Morrow, Louisa May Alcott</a>. Unfortunately I haven’t finished reading the book yet. I’m about halfway through and am really enjoying it, but haven’t dedicated much time to reading this month. I did make a yummy root beer flavored glaze that was inspired by the sassafras drawings made by Mr. March. When searching for recipes I came across a delicious sounding root beer cake and decided to modify the cake’s glaze and serve it on French toast. I definitely ate too much of the sweet glaze, but it did taste delicious. <br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53407276223/in/dateposted-public/" title="Root beer glaze on French toast"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53407276223_5030b572e1.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Root beer glaze on French toast"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div><br />Next year’s reading list for <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/p/craft-book-club.html">Craft Book Club</a> has not been created, but I think I need to read older books since most of the books I’ve been reading were published fairly recently. There are so many books that I’ve missed so we will read 12 books that were published before the year 2000! January’s read is <a href="https://search.worldcat.org/title/60545233">Winter’s Tale by Mark Helprin</a>. It’s a historical fiction romance with magical realism… I should definitely enjoy it!kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-89105811844462350552023-12-14T08:00:00.057-07:002023-12-14T08:00:00.132-07:00December Photos Week 2Are we even surprised? Last week I had my first few cute little digital scrapbook pages printed and I was doing at least okay with this scrapbooking thing. This week I have this single photo of one of the two banana splits I ate and nothing else to share. It turns out, no matter how many times I try or how much prep work I do, scrapbooking just is not my thing. I'd rather be watching cheesy Hallmark holiday romances (I watched several this week). So no more scrapbook making for me. I still plan sharing photos through the month, if I remember to take any!<div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53395613852/in/dateposted-public/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53395613852_1270b8621c.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div>kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-84915651692921794102023-12-12T08:00:00.032-07:002023-12-12T08:00:00.136-07:00A Jellyfish<div>I got an early xmas present! More oil pastels!!! I also bought some new sketchbooks, one with brown paper which I think is so great! The light colors show up pretty well and now I may have to get a sketchbook with black paper. The new oil pastels are fantastic! I love that there are so many colors and I especially love the smoothness when drawing, there were hardly any goobers on the page when I finished!</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53392397769/in/dateposted-public/" title="Jellyfish Oil Pastel"><img alt="Jellyfish Oil Pastel" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53392397769_054aeb1c43.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div>kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-6748041911836685562023-12-07T08:00:00.034-07:002023-12-10T12:10:19.714-07:00December Photos Week 1Instead of just sharing photos this month, I'm making a December Daily scrapbook! I have the first few days printed, now I need to locate the little photo albums that I'm sure I have and keep up with the photo taking and journaling! Wish me luck!<div><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53381139798/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53381139798_52fe53fe13.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53381405510/in/photostream/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53381405510_c3fd0f8437.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53381410795/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53381410795_5511c69494.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53380970441/in/photostream/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53380970441_c1eb9d0251.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53381139768/in/photostream/" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53381139768_3dbfb60c9e.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div></div><br />kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-16449398303388784362023-12-05T08:00:00.034-07:002023-12-05T08:00:00.132-07:00Abstract Fused GlassLast month I went to a glass fusing studio and made a little abstract piece to hang in the window. I really liked the pastel purple and green, but didn't know what to make with them so I decided on nothing in particular and added bits of clear glass to continue the bumpy texture. The bumpy texture makes the light refract in an interesting way, I'm a fan.<br /><br /><div>

This year, as usual, I'll be sharing photos each week of December and I'm starting a week early so you can enjoy some of these lights too!<div><br /></div><div>

It's a story in the King Arthur realm with the holy grail. I racked my brain trying to figure out some food that was not water that fit with the holy grail, but I was unsuccessful and decided to look up medieval recipes. I found a recipe for shrimp and carrot salad that was going to be a perfect addition to our Thanksgiving seafood feast! It's a simple recipe with shredded carrot tossed in a simple seasoned vinegar based dressing then topped with tiny shrimp tossed in the same vinegar dressing.<div><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53361178285/" title="Shrimp and Carrot Salad"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53361178285_194b32280a.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Shrimp and Carrot Salad"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div> <div><br /></div><div>We will be reading <a href="https://www.worldcat.org/title/1347272900">So Many Beginnings: A Little Women Remix by Bethany C. It was a new to me recipe that had no stirring and I substituted the vanilla flavor for raspberry flavor. The only other time I've made caramel was for these <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/2022/09/homemade-milk-duds.html">homemade milk duds</a> last year and it was a stir constantly recipe. These raspberry candies are delicious and there is enough raspberry flavor for another batch so I think I'll be making more soon!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53332703029/in/dateposted-public/" title="Homemade Raspberry Caramels"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53332703029_0e538d6e7f.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Homemade Raspberry Caramels"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div></div>kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-66342158938875148532023-11-14T08:00:00.002-07:002023-11-14T08:00:00.142-07:00Not Much ProgressI've barely made any progress on my latest <a href=" http://www.millyandtilly.com/2023/11/another-paint-by-numbers.html">paint by number</a>. I honestly haven't devoted much time to it, but when I finally sat down to paint I was struggling. The lines and numbers are light which is nice for paint coverage, but my old lady eyes cant really see them. I'm trying to locate my headlamp because I think that should help me see what I'm doing... wish me luck!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53330695395/in/dateposted-public/" title="Paint By Number Progress"><img alt="Paint By Number Progress" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53330695395_c149fd3ba3.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div>kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-71956372630134276282023-11-09T08:00:00.012-07:002023-11-09T08:00:00.141-07:00Part of a Floral Bouquet<div style="text-align: left;">I'm sharing another partial oil pastel drawing. It is Christmas themed and I originally wanted to complete it last year, but that didn't happen so now my plan is to finish it by December! I forgot how tedious they are and am slightly dreading my tight timeline. I'm not entirely sure how many hours of work this will be. So far I've spent about an hour painting and this is my progress. Wish me luck in completing this on time!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53315521550/in/dateposted-public/" title="Paint by Number Progress"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53315521550_dfe65650f5.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Paint by Number Progress"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53315293013/in/dateposted-public/" title="Paint by Number Progress"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53315293013_d534236054.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Paint by Number Progress"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53315404714/in/dateposted-public/" title="Paint by Number Progress"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53315404714_07109cbb89.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Paint by Number Progress"/></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div><br />kelly smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12244105498854277363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34810175.post-81058621919358212782023-11-02T08:00:00.079-06:002023-11-02T08:00:00.196-06:00A Violet DrinkI was looking though my old projects and in October 2017 for <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/p/craft-book-club.html">Craft Book Club</a> we read <a href="http://www.worldcat.org/search?q=dr+jekyll+and+mr+hyde&qt=results_page">Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson</a> and I painted a <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/2017/10/dr-jekyll-and-mr-hyde-pumpkin.html">Jekyll and Hyde pumpkin</a>! This October's read was <a href="https://www.worldcat.org/title/1296117838">My Dear Henry: A Jekyll & Hyde Remix by Kalynn Bayron, Robert Louis Stevenson</a> and I really enjoyed this version of the story. -Sort of a spoiler ahead- I particularly liked the twist how Hyde isn't a monster version of Jekyll especially since this was a gay love story and how often homosexuality is villainized. Since I'm primarily making foods and drinks for these I decided to make the 'potion' that turns jekyll into hyde! This tasty violet colored drink was made with a few ingredients I had on hand and enjoyed on Halloween. It is a mix of rhubarb syrup, blue food coloring, red food coloring (because the blue made the pink syrup too blue), and club soda.<div><div><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/millyandtilly/53301775293/in/dateposted-public/" title="A Violet Drink"><img alt="A Violet Drink" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53301775293_cd7dae2a38.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>November’s <a href="http://www.millyandtilly.com/p/craft-book-club.html">Craft Book Club</a> read is <a href="https://www.worldcat.org/title/1266197599">Spear by Nicola Griffith</a>.
